Two charged with commercial burglary in Petal

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Petal Police Department

On August 20, 2014, officers with the Petal Police Department responded to an alarm at a commercial business located on South Main Street in Petal.  Upon arrival officers located two (2) suspects, later identified as Michael Lamar Morris, and Devante Deshun Martin, in connection with the incident.

As the investigation progressed, two nearby additional businesses were found to have been burglarized as well.

Michael Lamar Morris and Devante Deshun Martin were arrested and charged with two (2) counts of Commercial Burglary, one (1) count of Attempted Commercial Burglary, and one (1) count of Possession of Burglary Tools.  Both Morris and Martin are currently being housed at the Forrest County Regional Jail.

    The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved a grant for $1 million to construct a stand-alone community safe room outside of Hattiesburg.  U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and Congressman Steven Palazzo announced the approval of the Hazard Mitigation grant Tuesday.  The facility will be a 5,000-square-foot safe room at the Dixie Attendance Center at 790 Elks Lake Road in Forrest County and will be designed to shelter 750 people within a half-mile radiu...More >>
