Hattiesburg Habitat for Humanity offers new way to help change lives

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Habitat for Humanity in Hattiesburg is part of an innovative program called 2X4XU. It allows people to purchase two-by-four pieces of wood for $200 that will later be used in the construction of a new home. The program has been implemented nationwide by the organization.

It takes about 300 of these two-by-fours to complete a home. Those who purchase one are asked to decorate it and return it.

"We'We'll frame it in the house and then you can come take your picture with it," said Laura Goodwin-Wright, Resource Development and Communications Manager, Habitat for Humanity.

The two-by-fours will be available at each home dedication for those who wish to sponsor one. They will be offered Saturday, August 23, at the home dedication in Petal. The wood will then be used to build the next home on N. 23rd Avenue in Hattiesburg.

Those interested can also pick up their two-by-four at the Hattiesburg office on Highway 42.

Though she stands at just 4-foot-10, Aimee Durn is a force for the Jones County Junior College women's soccer club. The short freshman from England is a big reason the Lady Bobcats are 5-0-1. "They say big things come in small packages and that's very true for Aimee," said tenth-year JCJC women's soccer coach Dolores Deasley.
