Covington County man will receive no jail-time in child molestation case

COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A 76-year-old Covington County man arrested on child molestation charges was sentenced in court Monday morning and will not serve any jail time.

Billy Pat Graves was sentenced to ten years in prison, suspended. A suspended sentence is a legal term for a judge's delaying of a defendant's serving of a sentence after they have been found guilty.

If the defendant does not violate the terms of the probation the judge typically dismisses the sentence.

Graves will have to serve three years of home confinement where he will be required to wear an electronic monitor. Plus, five years supervised probation and is required to register as a sex offender.

He also can have no contact with a minor female under the age of 16.

He was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for each count.
