KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV/AP) -
The NFL has benched Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe from the season opener against Tennessee.
The one-game suspension comes after Bowe's arrest for marijuana possession. The Chiefs open the season at home against the Titans on KCTV5.
Bowe was pulled over in Riverside on Nov. 10 for driving 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. He was traveling from Kansas City International Airport to his home.
Bowe was arrested after police found a black bag containing his wallet, driver's license and two containers of suspected marijuana.
He later pleaded guilty to amended charges of defective equipment and littering, and paid $610 in fines. Bowe's attorney said there was no admission of guilt for the marijuana charge, which was dismissed.
The NFL did not say why Bowe was suspended but it could have been for conduct detrimental to the league.
Bowe did not have an immediate comment.
"We are disappointed in the situation and will miss him on the field, but we support the league's decision. The club will have no further comment on the matter," the Chiefs said in a brief statement issued late Friday morning.
