Crusaders picked 3rd in SSAC preseason poll

Montgomery, Ala.- The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the 2014 SSAC Men's Soccer preseason poll and William Carey University was picked  third the conference office announced Monday.

Last season WCU went 12-5-1 and finished second in the regular season with a 9-2 record. WCU posted four wins against teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25 including victories against 2012 National Champion Belhaven and 2013 National Champion Martin Methodist.

Defending NAIA National champions, Martin Methodist was picked to finish first while national tournament runner-up Auburn Montgomery was second.

The SSAC has produced both NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship finalists in each of the past two seasons—Belhaven and Mobile (Ala.) in 2012 and Martin Methodist and Auburn Montgomery in 2013—and has had at least three teams advance to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Final Site in each of the past four years—Belhaven, Mobile and former member Southern Poly (Ga.) in 2010; Belhaven, Mobile, Southern Poly and William Carey in 2011; Auburn Montgomery, Belhaven, Mobile and Southern Poly in 2012; and Auburn Montgomery, Belhaven and Martin Methodist in 2013.

Last season, the SSAC placed four or five teams among the Top 25 nationally in all 13 coaches' polls to lead all NAIA conferences.
