Petal home destroyed by early morning fire

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Petal firefighters responded to a fully engulfed house fire around 8 o'clock Thursday morning, August 14 on Char Road in the city. Fire personnel on scene say that upon arrival there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage area of the home. Carlton Sims, an investigator for the Petal Fire Department says the units that responded to the fire were Engine 1, 2, and 3 along with the battalion chief and the chief on duty.

"As soon as we get the fire out and most of the heat out of the structure, the investigation team will get together and start the investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire." Sims said.

Old Richton road was briefly closed due to the fire but has since been opened back up for traffic and no one was home at the time of the fire.
