BREAKING: McDaniel files official election challenge in Jones County

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Chris McDaniel filed an official election challenge against Thad Cochran for the June 24 runoff in Jones County Thursday afternoon.

According to the petition, McDaniel filed a complaint of election contest with the Mississippi State Republican Party Executive Committee specifically reciting the runoff election for United State Senator.

McDaniel sited several voter irregularities that occurred in many Mississippi counties, specifically including Jones County.

According to the petition, McDaniel seeks to have an immediate injunction suspending and holding the placement of Senator Cochran's name on the ballot for the general election in November until the complaint can be heard.

In the alternative, McDaniel requested in the complaint that the court order a new Republican Party primary runoff election and require that the Republican Party implement proceeding to prevent "party raiding" and violation.

According to the complaint, when results from the voter irregularities of each county are removed from the statewide count, it will be shown that McDaniel is the nominee elected by the majority of the lawful Republican Party voters; and he requests to be so declared.
