MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

More than 300 athletes were at Faulkner University on Wednesday for the Special Olympics event.

The annual "Eunice K. Shriver day," named after the late Special Olympics founder, started on Wednesday.

Athletes were playing everything from flag football to baseball and softball.

Those helping got as much out of the events as those who participated.

"There are a number of people out there that may be less fortunate than they are, but they have a great talent," said Cindy Walker, director of Faulkner's iStart program. "We were visiting with someone a few minutes ago and he was naming off all the baseball players and trying to get us to guess where they were from. The young lady that's from Faulkner says 'Wow, you're a lot smarter than I am.' And I think it's good for them to see that everybody has special talents and we just have to mine those talents."

More than 400 Faulkner students and faculty, and community volunteers, helped make Wednesday's events happen.
