10th ranked JCJC Bobcats ready for the season to begin

How's this for a job? Replace Ray Perkins as head coach.

That's what new JCJC head coach David Thornton, has ahead of him this season.

"I think I took a lot of the things that Coach Perkins taught me and that I learned from him, and we've put those to work and obviously it's worked well the last two years. So, we want to keep things moving in that direction," said Thornton at Bobcats media day.

The task of replacing a legendary head coach is a lot easier with the type of players Thornton has on his roster.

Former Oak Grove quarterback Steven Swindle, returns to lead the offense, while Hoover, Ala., product Jamal Lucas, is there for the JCJC defense at linebacker.

"I'm excited man. I'm just shaking right now thinking about it. I just want to hit somebody," said Lucas.

Swindle said this time of year is great for the whole team. "Everybody loves football season. So, we're all excited. We're going at it hard everyday."

The Bobcats are ranked 10th in an early NJCAA preseason poll.

JCJC opens the season Thursday, August 28 on the road against the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers.
