HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Fire Dept. will have a new assistant chief on Monday. He's Matt Saucier, 40, and he takes over for Paul Presley, who held that position before being named chief four months ago.

Saucier attended the city's fire academy and joined the department as a firefighter in 1995.

He's served in many positions including lieutenant and captain.

"To be a firefighter is just a dream I had my whole life and something that I looked forward to doing once I could do it," Saucier said. "And becoming assistant chief, it's just an opportunity to serve on a higher level, be a little bit more involved in the decision-making process and the direction of the department in general," he said.

Saucier will be formally promoted during an annual fire department awards ceremony next month.
