Bobcat football, soccer teams begin practice

ELLISVILLE – School does not begin at Jones County Junior College until Aug. 18, but Bobcat football and soccer players are already preparing for their upcoming seasons.

JCJC football and soccer players checked into their respective dorms on Sunday afternoon and began practice on Monday.

The defending MACJC and Region 23 champion Lady Bobcat soccer team will have a scrimmage at home vs. Delta State University at Bobcat Soccer Field at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22. Head coach Dolores Deasley's team opens the regular season at 9 a.m. on Aug. 24 in Pensacola, Florida, vs. Broward County Community College (Florida).

The Bobcat men's soccer team will have a pair of scrimmages. JCJC travels to face William Carey University in a 4 p.m. match on Saturday and will go to Mississippi College for a 4 p.m. match on Aug. 22. Head coach Oleg Baleyev's Bobcats will begin regular season play at Itawamba at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26.

The Bobcat football team of first-year head coach David Thornton will open the season at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Northwest Mississippi.

All three teams will be introduced during the annual "Meet the Bobcats" event at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 in downtown Ellisville, next to Community Bank.
