GOODWATER, AL (WSFA) -

The suspect wanted in connection to an armed bank robbery in Coosa County is under arrest after a nearly 6 hour manhunt in the city of Goodwater.

Goodwater Police Chief Gerald Whetstone says the suspect, 43-year-old local resident Travis Cedric Wilson was taken into custody at 7:05 p.m. at the corner of Old Wetumpka Road and County Road 64.

Wilson is said to have walked into the First Bank branch on North Main Street at 1:45 p.m. at which time he produced a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries during the robbery.

Chief Whetstone says a large contingency of law enforcement joined the effort to find the suspect including Alabama State Troopers, who provided a state helicopter, tracking dogs from Draper and Kilby prisons, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service, and officers and deputies from the Coosa and Clay county sheriff's departments and Jackson's Gap and Rockford police departments.

The chief said following Wilson's capture, officers recovered what they believe was the weapon used in the robbery as well as money stolen from the bank.

Wilson, whom the chief said does have a criminal record, is now charged with first degree robbery and third degree escape for fleeing from law enforcement.

The suspect is being held by the Coosa County Sheriff's Department.

A mug shot is being efforted.
