Hattiesburg participates in Night Out Against Crime

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Neighborhoods in thePine Belt joined the national effort to stand up against crime.  

Parties were held across the City of HattiesburgTuesday night as part of National Night Out Against Crime. In Hattiesburg, cityofficials and residents enjoyed fellowship, games and hot dogs at Target, whilemany other folks gathered at places like the Hattiesburg Zoo and several areachurches.

"We proclaim this day as anational night out does, we also participate in the national night out againstcrime," said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree.

City officials want to send the message thattogether as a community crime won't be tolerated.

According to Lance Chancellor with the Powers Fire Department, the blaze sparked in the 150th block of Jordan Drive just before five, Monday morning. Officials ask you to avoid the area until the fire is under control. Chancellor said five different stations responded to fight the fire.
