HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Work to repair structural damage to an I-59 bridge in Hattiesburg is expected to take at least three more weeks.
The work has forced the closure of the right lane of the southbound lanes on I-59 from the Bouie River bridge to exit 67-A at Highway 49. The off ramp at 67-A toward Highway 49 south is also closed. The bridge was damaged when a track hoe being carried by a flat bed trailer crashed into the facing and got wedged.
While the work to repair the damage continues the right lane on I-59 and the Exit 67-A off ramp will remain closed. Because of the high volume of traffic during the day, M-DOT officials say most of the work on the bridge is being done at night. Target date to get them back open is around the first of September.
