ADAMS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An Adams County woman who ran over her friend with a car and killed him on the morning of August 4, is now facing a murder charge.

The case has been under investigation since 25-year-old Alyssa Brooke Standeford was arrested and Wednesday the Adams County Sheriff's Office contacted District Attorney Ronnie Harper with enough evidence and facts to have the charge upgraded to murder instead of manslaughter.

Standeford remains in the Adams County Jail but her bond is now $150,000. The charge of the degree of murder has yet to be determined.

It was around 3 a.m. Monday when Standeford was parking her vehicle at a home on Cloverdale Road and hit 25-year-old Kory DeWitt. He had been riding with Standeford but had gotten out of the vehicle already.

Adams County Sheriff's Department PIO Courtney Taylor said Dewitt had gotten out the car to get some shoes and parked it on the side of the road. Standeford told deputies she got behind the wheel to move the car and ran over him.

She said she didn't see Dewitt, but he was in front of the car when she ran over him. Standeford's blood was tested and results confirmed she was under the influence of Xanax and Lorcet.

No court date has been set for Standeford.
