DENVER (KDVR/CNN) – A woman is in jail and a teen is recovering from gunshot wounds after police say the woman shot the 14-year-old over a quarrel about bullying.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, a teen-neighbors’ squabble turned nearly deadly.

“She hit my brother and I went over there to ask her a question and she didn’t want to answer it and her mom shot me,” victim Niela Coleman said.

Cherry Robertson, 33, appeared in court on Monday on charges of attempted first-degree murder of a child.

Police say she fired three shots at Niela, 14, after the girl accused Robertson’s daughter of bullying.

"When I got shot I fell, I like blacked out for a minute and then she kept on shooting and I got up finally and I ran," Niela said.

“I saw her arm bleed when the bullet hit her in the shoulder and she fell and she was pointing the gun at her again and Niela got up and ran," her brother, Kevin Collins, said.

"She started screaming and she came in the house blood trail from back to the back and bleeding everywhere, screaming and just and she said that Cherry shot her," their mother, Tia Collins said.

Collins said they only met Robertson once and had no history with her family.

“People say she’s crazy,” Collins said.

The Robertsons did not answer requests for comments, but neighbors say kids in the neighborhood get into minor spats, and that the attack on the victim was unprovoked.

"The mother should have come to the mother instead of taking an adult, I mean taking a gun to a child these are children out here and it does take a village to raise a child," Collins said.

“I don’t even know the woman,” Niela said. “I could have died.”

Robertson remains in Denver Jail Monday night on $100,000 bond, according to KDVR in Denver.
