HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of underprivileged children in the Hattiesburg area are getting off to a good start this school year, thanks to the good-hearted folks at Christian Services, Inc. They hosted an annual back-to-school rally Saturday, complete with music, games and gifts. Included in those gifts were some much-needed school supplies.
Parents said they appreciated what the organization did for them, while volunteers said they get a special blessing from participating.
"It's really been a big help, especially for the families that are not able to afford the back-to-school stuff," said Angela Johnson, who brought her four children to the event. "I really appreciate what they do," she said.
"We want them to get a good, fresh start to the school year, to be equipped to be able to study and do well and succeed in life and we think this is a great way to do it," said Jon Scott, a volunteer from Liberty Church in Hattiesburg.
Among the items the children received were books donated by the Oak Grove High School football team.
