Laurel construction company sued over damaged Lake Serene dam

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Lake Serene Homeowners Association filed suit against Bush construction company of Laurel, blaming the company and its agents for damaging the dam that separates two of the five neighboring lakes.

According to the lawsuit filed in Lamar County, the association contracted with bush construction in June of 2011 to clear vegetation from the dam as ordered by MDEQ.

The suit said Bush cut an un-authorized roadway on the face of the dam six feet wide, causing a dirt slide on the back of the dam.

The suit also alleged the company abandoned the work resulting in the slope failure of the dam.

According to the suit, it will cost between 1.3 million and 1.7 million dollars to make the repairs to the dam.
