Bark for your Park competition going down to the wire

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

There are seven days left to vote in the Pet Safe Bark for your Park online competition.

Hattiesburg was entered into the competition to win money to build a dog park by the Hub City Humane Society. In the preliminary round of voting, Hattiesburg finished in the top 15 cities to make the finals. They currently stand at number four in the overall competition and have a nearly 8000 vote lead in the large city category. If they can maintain their lead in the last week they will win $25,000 to go toward building the park.

Folks can vote twice a day through July 31, at petsafe.net and at the Bark for your Park facebook page. The winners will be announced on Aug. 7.

"We have a really good lead and we have everyone to thank for voting and continuing to vote," said Virginia Cheatham, HCHS manager. "We're in the blackout section of it for the final week of the contest which means we cannot keep up with how many votes we have." We need everybody to please vote like they have been doing. The results have been amazing."

If Hattiesburg wins their category the park will be built on donated land on HCHS 70-acre property on Jackson Road in Oak Grove.

Saturday at the Jackson Road shelter adoption fee's for all animals have been waived which means folks can take home a furry friend for free.
