Southern Miss football at Conference USA media day

Members of the Southern Miss football program traveled to Irving, Texas this afternoon for Conference USA media day and the Golden Eagles had plenty to talk about.

The first topic? What it felt like to end that long suffering losing streak.

"I think it's hard to put into words. To finally sing the fight song. It's what you do," USM head coach Todd Monken said.

"It's how hard you work to taste victory in the locker room with each other and then the juice it brought for our fan base, our players, our coaches. We didn't have to spend the offseason talking about the losing streak."

Senior wide receiver Markese Triplett elaborated on how he dealt with each loss.

"When Coach Monken came in and we start building as a team, the loses as I was playing, they really didn't affect me as much because on Sunday, I'd start over. I'd try to take it as, erase that loss, let's be 1-0 this week."

Senior defensive back Jacorius Cotton said he's just ready to get back on the field.

"I haven't really played a full season since 2011. I'm really looking forward to that first game, show people that I can still play this game at a high level and I'm just looking forward to winning that game against [Mississippi] State."

Kickoff against the Bulldogs is August 30 at 6:30 on the SEC Network.
