INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

A motorcyclist died when he crashed into the wreckage of an overturned Cadillac Escalade early Tuesday morning on Interstate 70.

The driver of a Cadillac Escalade lost control while traveling westbound on I-70 just east of Lee's Summit Road, according to Independence police. The SUV struck the guard rail and overturned. The crushed vehicle came to rest on its roof in the right and middle lanes of I-70.

Debris was strewn for more than half a mile.

Cristopher M. Muse, 26, of Kansas City, KS, was traveling on his motorcycle westbound on the highway when he struck the wreckage, Independence police said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital where Muse died. The driver of the SUV is expected to recover.

The crash, which occurred about 1:30 a.m., remains under investigation.
