BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The severely injured dog rescued in Copiah County underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon to amputate her leg.

The six-month-old mixed breed was found with part of her leg missing last Friday on the side of the road near Brookhaven.

The dog was named Amya after the woman who found her.

Amya was found with the lower half of a back leg missing.

Dr. Bob Watson said there is no way to know if the leg was cut off intentionally or not, but, he says, the injury was at least 2 weeks old.

When she's healthy enough the dog, Amya, will be staying with the girl, Amya, until a permanent home can be found.
