Lamar County escapee makes court appearance

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Lamar County inmate that stole a county van and escaped a work detail made his initial appearance Tuesday morning. 

Matthew Thompson was denied bond on escape and grand larceny charges. Thompson was also sentenced to 10 years for previous charges of receiving stolen property and grand larceny. 

Authorities apprehended Thompson in Vicksburg after a three day search, and have since recovered the county van on private property in Eastern Covington County.

    The new Miss Hospitality has been crowned in Hattiesburg.  She is Emma Grace McGrew, 18, of Booneville.
