Bill McGillis: 'We've got a significant financial challenge in front of us.'
Earlier today I sat down with Southern Miss Athletic Director Bill McGillis, to recap his first year on the job.
All week we'll have portions of the interview including today's topic, is the athletic department on track to turn a profit in 2014 as it did in 2013?
Bill McGillis: "We've got a significant financial challenge in front of us. No question. I think Southern Miss is a place that's always outperformed it's resources. We're going to have to continue to do that.
"Balancing the budget here is a massive challenge. We've got to grow our revenues in order to balance the budget this year and every year hereafter, while continuing to carefully manage the expenses side of our budget."
"Increasing our fan base, increasing attendance, increasing fund raising is absolutely critical to us going forward."
According to the USA Today, Southern Miss turned a $377,360 profit in 2013. Revenue was $22,776,416 with expense of $22,399,056.
