Petal Police assist in church clean up

The Petal Police were out in full force today, and all for a good cause.

Off duty officers from the department teamed up with members of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Petal to help clean elderly resident's properties.

The officers and church member were removing debris and tearing down a dilapidated building.

"This is donated volunteer time, we're off..we don't receive any benefit from this today other than the benefit of helping the community, it's always good for us police officers to come out and reconnect with the community," said Mike Crawford, Sgt. for Petal Police.

The pastor of Mt. Bethel also said that the help from the department was a blessing.

"We just thank Sergeant Crawford and his men for giving their time and their effort and we're having a blessed time and we are fellow shipping together and we thank God for them and we'll continue to be supportive of them as they are supportive of us," said Thomas Young, Pastor at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.

This was part of the Petal Police Department's Community Project they participate in each year.
