Former Covington County fire chief charged with grand larceny

COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced Monday that former Southwest Covington County Fire Chief Jerry Warren has been indicted on one county of grand larceny.

Warren was arrested Friday by OSA Special Agents and the Covington County Sheriff's Deputies. He is accused of embezzling nearly $10,000 from the department by making cash withdrawals from two separate bank accounts and making unauthorized purchases totaling more than $350. The alleged transactions dated back to 2009.

The embezzlement came to light after a long investigation by the State Auditors Office.

Warren has been released on $5000 bond.
