Early morning shooting sends woman to the hospital

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Police in Wilmington are investigating a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital Sunday morning.

According to Corporal Locklear with WPD, the incident happened sometime Sunday morning near the 1500 block of South 12th Street in the Village of Greenfield Apartments.

Locklear said the female victim was shot in the leg. She was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and has since been released.

The initial 911 report came in around 8:45 a.m. but Locklear said that police are still trying to figure out exactly when the shooting happened and who is responsible.

Locklear said neither the victim nor witnesses are providing further information. Therefore, police have no leads on any potential suspects at the time of this report.

The case remains an ongoing investigation spearheaded by Wilmington Police.
