PROSPERITY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Newberry County investigators said a shooting left a 19-year-old man dead and another man wounded early Sunday morning.

Deputies said they were called to a large block party on Rikard School Road in Prosperity after receiving complaints about traffic congestion and noise. They said they arrived to find the street completely blocked by vehicles.

Deputies said shots were fired as they were working their way through the cars and crowd. At that point, deputies said, a large crowd of more than 100 people began running from the scene.

After deputies were able to get through the crowd, they said they found a man unresponsive on the ground, with a gunshot wound to the head. Deputies said EMS confirmed the victim had died.

Deputies said they were soon notified that another person that had been shot was being driven to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Deputies said information about what happened was limited.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster has asked witnesses to come forward with information on what led up to the shooting.

"Someone's life was loss during this party," Foster said. "If this were your loved one, you would want someone to do the right thing and come forward so the perpetrator can be brought to justice."

Coroner Craig Newton identified the decedent as Zemeckis Houston, 19, of Newberry.

Newton said an autopsy had been scheduled for Monday.

Deputies the said the surviving shooting victim was being treated at the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 803-321-2222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
