Southern Miss football hosts All-Star Party in Jackson

It's a fact of life, people like to party.

Some more so than others and last night, the Southern Miss football team threw one for fans in Jackson at the Mississippi Trade Mart.

About 30 football players joined the coaching staff to get geared up for the upcoming season at the 31st annual All-Star Party.

USM head coach Todd Monken, expressed his views on the difference heading into the 2014 campaign as opposed to last season.

"Obviously the juice of the UAB win, I think has led to the off season.  I think anytime you lose the last game, or you win a bowl game, or you end the year on a high note, there's juice with your fans.  I think there's an excitement moving forward and a good taste in your mouth."

Several hundred fans were in attendance to cheer on the team and the squad feels the event helps fuel their excitement about the upcoming season.

"It's a confidence booster. I feel like it gave me another reason to push myself to keep going," said junior wide receiver D.J. Thompson.

"As far as my teammates are concerned, you don't realize how many people are in it with us and you know as long as we keep pushing forward we will be great."

Southern Miss will take on Mississippi State in their season opener August 30.
