HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg is off to a great start in the Rachael Ray ASPCA 100 K Challenge.
The shelter is competing against 50 others from throughout the country. The goal of the challenge is save more lives than they did last year during, June, July, and Aug. Southern Pines set a goal of finding homes for 1500 animals. So far they have saved more than 750 animals. With six weeks to go they are on track to reach their goal.
At the end of June they were number one in their division and number five in challenge.They have held several big adoption events and have several more planned.
"We've had a lot of great successful events,"said Ginny Sims, shelter manager. "This Saturday and Sunday some of our long time dogs and cats will be up for adoption for just $10."
