Voting nears end in Pet Safe Bark for your Park contest

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hub City Humane Society is in the final stretch in the voting for the Pet Safe Bark for Your Park online contest.

In the preliminary round Hattiesburg made the top 15 to reach the finals. The top finisher in the country will win $100,000 to go towards building a dog park in the city. With about two-week to go in the voting, Hattiesburg is currently in fifth-place overall. With more than 21,000 votes, Hattiesburg leads the large city category. If they can maintain their lead they will win $25,000 to go toward the park.

"We're really feeling grateful to the community that has helped us so much to get the dog park," said Virginia Cheatham, HSHC manager. "This is for the whole Hattiesburg area, not just Lamar County and the community support had been overwhelming."

If Hattiesburg should finish first the park would be built on the HCHS 70-acre property on Jackson Road.

Voting continues until July 31. Folks can vote twice a day at the Petsafe.net site and on the Pet Safe Bark for you Park facebook page.
