Dozens of yard equipment burglaries in Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - In seven months, criminals have stolen items worth thousands of dollars from residents in Jones County.

The county's sheriff's department says it's doing its job, but now is calling on the public for help.

Since January of 2014 to the present date we have had countless, countless burglaries and grand larcenies to residents all over Jones County," said Chief of Operations Major Jamie Tedford. "Four wheelers, trailers, lawnmowers that was on trailers, weed eaters, chainsaws, any kind of yard equipment."

Just this weekend, residents in Moselle had two of their items stolen from their yard. Their four wheeler and their zero-turn mower are just part of dozens of items missing.

"It's thousands and thousands and thousands that we've had reported to us," said Major Tedford.

If you have a four wheeler, a lawn mower or any other outdoor device or tool, the Jones County Sheriff's Department suggest you write down your serial number, take a photo of your serial numbers, also take the keys out of your machines, make sure to check them daily and keep them out of site. They also suggest you buy a trailer hitch lock and/or wheel locks.

"That's the best tips that we can do is to tell people to just keep their stuff locked up and out of sight and out of mind," said Major Tedford.

If you have any information, or know where any of these items may be located, you are asked to contact the Jones County Sheriff's Department at 601-425-3147.
