A Southwest Virginia town manager lost his job Thursday night.

Bill Boswell failed to get the needed votes to stay employed as the manager of Chilhowie.

At Thursday night's town council, Bill Boswell was nominated to be re-hired, and that nomination even got a second.

But when it came to a vote, a majority of town council members voted not to re-appoint him.

No reason was given for the decision not to reappoint Boswell who asked for permission to leave the meeting after the vote and failed to return before the meeting was over.

Chilhowie Town Treasurer Marlene Henderson was named interim town manager.

Calls to Boswell for comment haven't been returned.
