TYRONE, GA (CBS46) -

A metro Atlanta mom turned herself into police Thursday after leaving her 5-year-old in a hot car Wednesday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson with Tyrone police, a passer-by called authorities after seeing the child in a car outside a Publix supermarket at the 1500 block of State Highway 74 in Tyrone.

The car was not running and all of the windows were rolled down, according to authorities.

Police said 28-year-old Semeatress Robinson told them the child was sleeping when she arrived at the store, so she decided to let him sleep since she only needed a few items.

After reviewing security video, police said the child was left in the car more than 30 minutes. The temperature outside was 89 degrees at the time, according to authorities.

Police said the child complained of being hot to paramedics, and they were concerned about heat and the child possibly being kidnapped.

Although police said they didn't believe Robinson had malicious intent, she was still asked to turn herself into authorities.

Robinson was arrested and booked into the Fayette County jail, charged with reckless conduct.
