NEAR GIRDWOORD, AK (KTUU/NBC) - A woman jogging alone along Penguin Ridge Trail was attacked by a brown bear sow and two cubs shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.

Susanne Knudsen, 59, of Indian was wearing headphones and did not have bear deterrent of any kind as she was jogging near the popular Bird Creek Campground, amid Chugach State Park, located between Anchorage and Girdwood.

Knudsen told troopers she saw two brown bear cubs come out of the brush in front of her. A cub started to come toward her, and then she was hit from behind by the mother bear.
