STOCKTON, CA (KOVR/CNN) – State charges against the “hot convict” Jeremy Meeks have been dropped in favor of federal charges.

The decision was announced in court on Tuesday.

Meeks gained notoriety for his looks when a mug shot of him went viral on the Stockton, CA police department’s Facebook page last month.

The 30-year-old is being held on more than $1 million bail at San Joaquin County Jail on weapons charges.
