Driver flees, is caught after fatal crash near Empire

Officers with the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police responded to a three-car crash near Empire that killed a man Tuesday.

The accident happened at 3:28 a.m. in the 30500 block of Highway 23 in Nairn.

The Second District Patrol Division arrived on the scene approximately two minutes later and found one of the drivers critically injured. He later died.

The driver whom police believe was responsible for the crash fled the scene on foot but was captured nearly five hours later in a wooded area in the 100 block of South Street in Port Sulphur. He is currently in custody.

No names have been released.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Louisiana State Police Troop B.
