Metro students heading back to school in less than a month

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A little less than a month from now, Metro Schools will be back in session.

Metro school officials say just days before the buses start rolling, there are still thousands of students who haven't registered or gotten vaccinated.

"It never fails every year that about half the students who need the immunizations don't, and if you don't have those immunizations, you will not be allowed to attend school," said Joe Bass, spokesperson for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

That's why enrollment centers have been set up at all 12 of the district's zoned high schools.

"You'll want to come to an enrollment enter if you're entering kindergarten for the first time, if you move to a different part of town or if you're new to the city or new to Metro Schools in general," Bass said.

Right now, there's no wait to register your student, but in another two weeks, you won't find yourself so lucky.

With 85,000 students going back in a matter of weeks, now's the time to get moving.

"We have less than a month to prepare, and we expect a lot of parents to come in the last weeks of July, the last week before school starts. So the time, really, to start is now," Bass aid.

Metro is also hosting an enrollment fair on July 19 at the Lenz Public Health Center. Not only can students register there, but you can also get your child immunized and pick up a copy of their birth certificate. They also have a customer service hotline at 259-INFO.
