Southern Miss Athletics Press Release
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Former Southern Miss right-handed pitcher Cameron Giannini recently signed to play professional baseball with the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums of the Frontier League.
The Frontier League, an independent league, is in its 22nd season in 2014 and features 14 teams stretching from Pennsylvania to Missouri and from Kentucky to northern Michigan. The Frontier League annually advances the most players to MLB organizations of any of the independent leagues, and 25 former Frontier League players have played in the Major Leagues.
Giannini has thrown twice for the club since his signing on July 1, making both appearances in relief.
The Danville, Va., native played three seasons for the Golden Eagles, where he compiled a 9-6 record with a 4.19 earned run average. He made 44 appearances, including 14 starts which all took place in 2014, and fanned 86 in 122 1/3 career innings.
Giannini becomes the fourth player from the 2014 Southern Miss baseball team to move on to professional baseball. The others included right-handed pitchers Bradley Roney (Wetumpka, Ala.) and Conor Fisk (Brown Deer, Wis.), along with outfielder Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.).
