Bobcats ranked No. 26 in “Dirty 30” preseason poll

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats have received notice in a preseason football poll.

The Bobcats are rated No. 26 in the JCGridiron Rivals "Dirty 30" preseason poll, which was released Sunday morning. JCJC, which posted a 9-2 record in 2013, is the defending MACJC South Division champion.

First-year head coach David Thornton's Bobcats will open the season at 6:30 p.m. on August 28 at Northwest Mississippi Community College. JCJC's first home game will be at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 against Itawamba Community College in the annual "Hall of Fame" game.

Defending MACJC and NJCAA champion East Mississippi is the preseason No. 1 team in the "Dirty 30" poll, followed by City College of San Francisco and Riverside Community College (California). The "Dirty 30" poll includes all NJCAA and California schools.

Other MACJC schools listed include Mississippi Gulf Coast at No. 9 and Copiah-Lincoln at No. 14. MACJC schools listed in the "Other Schools on the Bubble" category are Itawamba and Hinds.

Bobcat players will be report for the second session of summer school on July 7.
