End of an era, WDAM live truck retired

MOSELLE, MS (WDAM) -

After 19 years of service at WDAM, the 1993 Ford Econoline Van known as the live truck and in recent years called some not so nice things, is headed off to greener pastures.

She came to the station in 1995 and has served well in that time. In recent years as age crept on her she began to falter through no fault of her own. Now she is just a shell of her once proud self, but she has earned the right to hold her mast up high.

"There's one engineer that I wish were here today, said Wil Nunnery, morning producer. "Jim Wilkinson would be very sad to see the old live truck go as many years as he spent on it.

"In 2004, 2005 we covered a bunch of hurricanes and she looked at me one day and said come in, stay dry," said Nick Ortego, news director.

"One time she held me up when I was on assignment. She lifted me up on top during a hostage situation and we were able to see a great distance down the road," said Ryan Moore, reporter.

"1993, I was only three years old so I never really got a chance to know her," said Bailey Maloney, reporter.

"Back in 2005 after Katrina we did so many life shots many times a day. That was one of my first memories," said Mon Musiett, reporter.

"You wouldn't believe what we have been through together, hurricanes, snow storms, ice storms, tornadoes, the whole thing. Without her I don't  know what I'm going to do," said Rex Thompson weather.

I've had the pleasure of working with her for nine years, four as the primary operator. She has given me fits at times, but for the most time she has been there when I needed her most. So as she begins her journey to her new life in retirement, I know I can speak for everyone when I say goodbye, job well done.

WDAM will soon have a brand new live truck. It is currently being made operationally ready and should arrive in a few weeks.
