HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Mail processing that's done in Hattiesburg will be moving to Alabama next year.

The Postal Service has announced that the Hattiesburg Customer Service Mail Processing Center on S. 40th Ave. will be re-locating to Mobile in 2015.

It's part of a plan to consolidate operations that will also include processing mail from Gulfport in Mobile.

Postal officials said consolidation is necessary, in part, because of $26 billion in losses in the last three years.

A total of 82 facilites will be consolidated beginning next January.

In the last two years, the Postal Service consolidated 141 mail processing facilities.
