Drowning reported at Four Corners Marina in Antioch

ANTIOCH, TN (WSMV) -

Rescue teams have recovered a man's body at Percy Priest Lake after witnesses reported a drowning just after 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators identified the victim as David Malone, 28. Metro police said Malone was climbing the ladder of a pontoon boat when he fell into the water. Witnesses told first responders Malone never resurfaced.

People tried jumping into the water to rescue Malone, but he had drifted too far, according to officers.

Malone was visiting the lake with his fiance and approximately 10 friends.

Braving lightning and torrential rain, crews focused their search near Four Corners Marina in Antioch. They found Malone's body around 6 p.m. Investigators said Malone could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket.

It's unclear whether alcohol played a role in Sunday's accident. Metro police said they will investigate the case. The Nashville Fire Department, the Office of Emergency Management and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency also responded to the scene.

A spokesperson for the TWRA said this drowning marks the eighth boat-related death this year.

In May, police recovered the body of Kortae Hughes, 16, who also drowned in Percy Priest Lake.
