Roads open after train derailment

LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) -

Twisted metal and toppled rail cars are out of the way and traffic is back to normal in the city of Lumberton after a Wednesday train derailment.

One person was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries in the 10 car derailment that occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Lamar County Emergency Management Director James Smith, rail cars have been moved to the side of the tracks, and the main line and side line have been repaired and are back open for rail traffic.

Officials also stated that Industrial Parkway Road is now open and the rail crew will begin removing damaged rail cars from the area as soon as possible.
