The Mississippi Southern District Transportation Commissioner, Tom King, was at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel to present a check in the amount of $322,262.00 to Jones County Supervisors. The money will provide funds for a drainage, a decorative fence and other items along the area once occupied by I-59 near the hospital. These funds are part of the Federal Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) which can only be used for the work.
"The board of supervisors are receiving this grant and what they do with it will be the beautification around the hospital on state owned and county owned land." said King.
Beat 4 County Supervisor Andy Dial said, "South Central Regional Medical Center Health System is the second largest employer in Jones County, providing jobs for almost 2,000 area residents. The medical center has grown significantly over the years bringing quality physicians and new programs to the Jones County area so that our residents can stay at home for quality health care services. Anytime we can lend our support to the health system, we certainly want to do so."
