Results from Metro Animal Control audit released

Posted: Updated:

Metro officials are promising to make some big changes in the wake of a huge dog fighting investigation in Bordeaux.

Three dozen dogs were taken from a home on Pewitt Drive in April.

The Health Department said there had been complaints about the home for years, but those claims were not handled correctly by Animal Control officers.

This sparked an investigation into previous animal abuse complaints.

According to a report released on Wednesday, two calls were improperly handled and documented but there was no intentional misconduct done by any of the employees.

Animal Control is promising to make changes to keep this from happening again.

The audit suggests additional training for dispatchers and hiring more officers so they can track animal cruelty cases faster. They're also asking officers to get better documentation of which calls they go to.

Two Animal Control employees were suspended before the investigation started but have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
