Resurfacing Operations to Begin Along I-59 in Laurel

JONESCOUNTY, MISS., Tuesday, June 24, 2014— TheMississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announces the following impactto motorists traveling along Interstate 59 in Jones County as part of a $13million resurfacing project.  Work on the project, which was awarded toDunn Roadbuilders, LLC. began in March.

BeginningWednesday, June 25, crews will begin resurfacing the southbound lanes ofroadway within the city limits of Laurel between the Chantilly - Highway 84interchange moving south to the 4th Avenue interchange. Work willthen progress north from 4th Avenue to the Chantilly-Highway 84Interchange.

The resurfacing operation isscheduled to take 7 to 10 days to complete; motorists will encounter laneclosures during this time.  The interstate is being treated with a surfaceto improve driver visibility and traction during wet conditions.  Workwill also include repairing some drainage structures throughout the project.

Work is scheduled to be completedby the end of the year.
