HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg has been ranked in the top 50 on a list of most affordable college towns in the country.

GreatValueColleges.net has says the Hub City is No. 24 on its 50 Great Affordable College Towns in the U.S.

It was the only city in Mississippi to make the list.

The study was based on cost-of-living index scores as published by the Council for Community and Economic Research.

"We enjoy a great quality of life here in Hattiesburg," said Jim Coll, chief communications officer for Southern Miss. "When you think about the Division One athletics we offer here at Southern Miss, when you think about the arts community, you think about all the good food you can get at reasonable prices in the city, that's something that you can't get at a lot of places," he said.

Factors such as cost of groceries, housing, utilities, transportation and health care were considered in compiling the list.
