LA CROSSE COUNTY, WI (WEAU/NBC) - A Wisconsin high school student is literally going the distance to help fight hunger.

Kyle Lang, who will be a senior at West Salem High School, is running 101 miles to raise funds and awareness.

"I know hunger is prominent in our community, and it's pretty essential for everyday life. Without food you can't survive," Lang said.

Lang is doing the run for his senior exit project, which is required to graduate. He's used to running, since he's on the cross country and track teams, but he says a run like this isn't just about endurance.

"A lot of it is going to be mental. Just hang through it, and I'll be alright," he said.
