Longview ISD halts search for new superintendent

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Longview ISD has said they will "stay the process" in the search for a new superintendent.

Horace Williams, who is currently under contract with the school district as assistant superintendent through the 2014-2015 school year, has been the lone candidate for the position of superintendent of schools. He would take over the job when Dr. James Wilcox retires at the end of that school year if chosen as the replacement for Wilcox. The announcement that he was lone finalist for the position was made on May 21.

However, after much discussion, Longview ISD board members and Williams have not been able to come to an agreement on contract terms, Longview ISD Community and Media Relations Coordinator Adam Holland said. After a closed session Monday night, it was decided to stay the process. No action was taken to remove Williams as a candidate for the position of superintendent, though negotiations will cease, at least for now. No new search is in process at this time, either, according to Holland; there has been no expansion of the search. The board did not give any official reason for suspending the process.

Williams, a Leverett's Chapel native, began his job as an assistant superintendent back in October 2013. Prior to that, he was superintendent of schools in Cedar Hill ISD, as well as Diboll ISD and on Long Island, New York.
